Reflections on Leadership

Lessons for schools from the COVID-19 Crisis and the experience of Anglicare

There’s no doubt – 2020 has been a challenging year! The COVID-19 pandemic has revealed many things: it has shown cracks in our communities; the vulnerability of budgets to financial shock; our society’s desire for meaningful relationship (especially revealed when it is taken away in lockdown and now through our ongoing need to socially distance); and the quality of leaders and their leadership.

So what can school communities learn from someone who has been tested more than most? Our speaker, Greg Hammond OAM, is the Chair of the Anglicare Board in Sydney. He has had to navigate some of the most pointed public and political scrutiny of anyone in this crisis. The Anglican EdComm 2020 Governors’ Symposium is a unique opportunity to learn from Greg’s experience. As educational institutions undergo increasing examination, how can governors and leaders be prepared and position organisations to not just ‘weather the storm’ but navigate it, learn from it, emerge stronger and deepen the organisation's commitment to the gospel? Greg Hammond shared his insights and advice for everyone involved in the governance and leadership of educational institutions.
